About Me
Michael Young: Educator, Artist, Family Man, & Lover of Life.
Education and art have been two big themes in my life for a long time. As a visual artist I have had the chance to work with some great galleries and non-profit organizations, and my work has been seen in New American Paintings Magazine, and on NPR.org.
I have been working in education since 2007. In that time I have been a substitute teacher, classroom aide, have taught art, middle school history, and been an assistant director for an after school program at an amazing K-8 school in the San Francisco bay area. In 2011 I volunteered to give one on one tutoring to students with learning differences in math and reading, and instantly realized that I had found my career path. At the end of the 2010-2011 school year I moved to Los Angeles to participate in the Accelerated Collaborative Teacher Education Program at the California State University in Northridge.
I will be completing my preliminary, Education Specialist Teaching Credential for the State of California in June of 2012, with certifications in autism, and the instruction of English Learners. I am eagerly seeking opportunities to work in SDC or RSP settings in middle school or the upper elementary grades.
